SA’s Nomfusi to premiere The Red Stoep album with Soda Studios performance

The virtual concert comes ahead of Nomfusi’s album’s release later in August. It will offer fans a unique South African vibe through Nomfusi’s music and township stories.

The live stream will be followed by a Zoom session where the audience will be offered an opportunity to interact with the artist. Additionally, a virtual chat will be available throughout the concert and enable fans from around the world to participate in a cultural exchange.

“We are happy to bring the world together through the event, and to celebrate and connect via the love of music,” the concert organisers said.

Released on German label Delicious Tunes Records, The Red Stoep is steeped in Nomfusi’s traditional roots with stories of growing up in the township and childhood memories influenced by her single mother’s spirituality as a traditional healer. The 11-track offering is led by the single ‘Iqaqa’ released in June, and draws from issues such as social injustice and gender-based violence.

Sonically, the eclectic album fuses maskandi with big brass arrangements, groovy township rhythms and melodic guitar lines. The album is peppered with soulful ballads bearing hints of gospel, jazz, lounge and Afropop.

The Soda Studios concert will be followed up by a show at the Radisson RED V&A Waterfront in Cape Town on 3 September.

Soda Studios is the brainchild of entertainment tech veteran Michael Balkind. The company operates as a platform for African creatives and producers to bring stories and performances to life using state-of-the-art technology in a creative and immersive environment.

The platform has hosted a number of prominent artists including legendary South African guitarist Madala Kunene, jazz musician Pops Mohamed, Soweto band Urban Village, award-winning producer Sun-El Musician, platinum-selling singer Ami Faku and South African-born Congolese hip hop artist Manu WorldStar.
