SA’s Ziggy4x named Apple Music Up Next artist
Apple Music has announced Manenberg-based upcoming rapper, Ziggy4x, as the latest addition to its Up Next programme.
Up Next is Apple Music’s global artist initiative geared towards identifying, showcasing and elevating rising talent. The local South Africa version of their global emerging artist platform launched early in 2021.
“Blessed is one word, pride is another,” Ziggy4x told Apple Music. “Being able to take my music further than just another local song played on the street corner is so special to me. I only hope this inspires more people like me to be truly themselves. Shout out to Apple Music, I’m Up Next!”
Despite being in the game for just 12 months, the Cape Town-based rapper has swiftly gained recognition for his genuine style, relentless flow, and innovative approach to music production, resonating with listeners across South Africa.
The release of his debut track ‘Honne’ and its subsequent success, led to Ziggy4x releasing a ‘Honne Remix’ featuring Maglera Doe Boy and Priddy Ugly, further catapulting himself into viral stardom. Heavily influenced by 50 Cent, Ziggy4x is equally inspired by his community and coloured roots, spitting rhymes from his unique perspective.
His debut EP Gangsta Baby (2024), available for streaming on Apple Music, is a seven-track tour de force hip hop release that pays homage to the Afrikaans language and culture, steeped in themes of loyalty, love and confidence.
As the newest Up Next artist to be spotlighted in South Africa, Ziggy4x will be featured across Apple Music’s South African Up Next playlist. The curated Up Next playlist features a dynamic class of new and emerging artists, thoughtfully hand-picked by Apple Music editors from around the world.
“The playlist is genre-agnostic and represents a line-up of artists our global editors are passionate about and eager to expose to a larger audience,” Apple Music said.
