Sauti Sol to promote their third album in the US
Kenyan pop group Sauti Sol is set to promote its third album, Live and Die in Afrika, in the US, shortly after being crowned Africa’s best group at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) in South Africa. The band will stage a headlining concert at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on 30 October before extending their tour to five other stops, including Seattle, Minnesota, Washington DC, North Carolina and Texas.
“Winning the best group award is a career highlight for us, and the East African music industry as a whole. We’ve been working hard and consistently at our career for about seven years,” the band said. In 2015 the group had been nominated in the same category but lost to Nigeria’s P-Square.
The US tour is a continuation of the band’s countrywide and continental tours to promote the album. Beyond promoting their album, Sauti Sol was among the 38 acts to be featured on the 2016 continental TV Show Coke Studio Africa, where they collaborated with Congolese superstar Fally Ipupa. The collaboration was produced by Nigeria’s Masterkraft, resulting in the single ‘Gimme More’.
The band’s full tour schedule of the US is as below:
- 30.10: Highline Ballroom, New York City
- 03.11: Neptune Theatre, Seattle
- 04.11: Eritrean Hall, Minnesota
- 05.11: Coco Cabana, Washington DC
- 11.11: Reign Ultra Lounge, North Carolina
- 12.11: Swayz Ballroom, Texas
