Sony Music West Africa welcomes Ghana’s Asomacy
Ghanaian artist Asomacy has landed a record deal with Sony Music West Africa.
The move, through The Pep Entertainment (TPE), follows the viral success of his single ‘Why’ on TikTok and other social media platforms.
“Glad to announce my new family, Sony Music West Africa,” the singer, whose craft is steeped in pop, confirmed on social media while disclosing the arrival of a Shadrach Junie Annang-directed music video for the track.
Music executive and TPE boss Kwadwo ‘Pep Junia’ Amoah told Music In Africa that Sony Music West Africa presents the best opportunity for the artist, backed by the label’s glowing history of successfully launching new talent.
“I have been working with him for some time now, and after travelling across the country with him as an opening act for rapper Kofi Mole, his potential as a consummate act became even more apparent to me.”
At the label, Asomacy joins the likes of fellow Ghanaian act Gyakie and Nigeria’s F3line and Mayorkun among others.
“I believe this step will elevate everything we do to make that dream happen,” Asomacy, who began pursuing music professionally at 15, having started writing his own songs at 12, said.
Growing up in Kumasi, his passion for music was nurtured by his elder siblings who played music at home.
“Whatever the future holds for me depends on how much work and effort I put in today, so, I will keep doing what I’ve always loved,” he said.
Asomacy’s Sony deal arrives on the heels of the release of Nigerian-Beninese singer-songwriter and producer Milar’s debut single ‘Sweet Rhythm’ on the label as pats of efforts to amplify the artist’s unique sound, which “blends Afrobeats, pop, R&B and trap.”
