SoundCloud features Uganda's DJ Kampire
SoundCloud has featured DJ Kampire as part of the streaming platform's August round-up of DJs to Watch.
The Ugandan artist appears alongside fellow international DJs marum (Portugal), Tutu (Spain), Juana (US) and Renata (Lebanon).
Kampire is known for creating and releasing music that carries high-octane tempos and twisting polyrhythms influences of Afro-house, Latin bass, St Lucian soca, soukous, baile funk, kudoro and gqom.
She is currently one of East Africa's most talked-about electronic artists and has played across Europe, the US and Asia. This year, she performed at Wilderness Festival (UK) Kallida Festival (UK), Dour Festival (Belgium), Melt Festival (Germany), N'Gola Biennial (São Tomé e Príncipe) and Festival Les Suds à Arles (France).
She is expected to play at the upcoming Nyege Nyege festival in Jinja, Uganda, starting this Thursday.
SoundCloud’s DJs to Watch was launched this year to promote music creators who are constantly mixing up the norm and pushing music culture forward.
“These creators are part of our direct monetisation programme, SoundCloud Premier, which gives rising talent direct access to monetisation and marketing opportunities on SoundCloud and beyond,” the company said.
SoundCloud has previous featured other African artists such as Sampa the Great and Rachel Chinouriri.
