SoundCloud launches Artist plan to support emerging musicians
SoundCloud has unveiled a new subscription plan called Artist, to help emerging and aspiring musicians bring their music to a wider audience without the burden of high costs or technical complexities.
The streaming platform aims to make it easier for new artists to create, distribute, and monetise their music while growing their careers. Priced at $3.25 per month (or $39 annually), the Artist plan bridges the gap between SoundCloud’s Basic and Artist Pro (formerly Next Pro) subscriptions, providing an affordable entry point for musicians just starting out.
Alongside the launch, SoundCloud has rebranded Next Pro to Artist Pro to reflect its evolving offerings and commitment to supporting creators at every stage of their journey.
“At SoundCloud, we believe great music can come from anywhere, and it shouldn’t be held back by cost or complexity,” SoundCloud CEO Eliah Seton, said. “That’s why we created the Artist plan to provide emerging musicians with pro-level tools and distribution at an affordable price. As the only creator platform in music that directly connects artists with fans, we’re making it even easier for artists to get heard. Whether you’re just starting out or taking the next step, SoundCloud is here to help artists reach their full potential and connect with fans ready to listen.”
The Artist plan offers a range of professional tools tailored to meet the needs of new artists. Subscribers can upload unlimited tracks within a three-hour content limit, distribute two tracks per month to over 60 platforms (including Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok, and YouTube), and retain 100% of royalties from SoundCloud plays. Additionally, artists can receive professional mastering credits, algorithm-driven promotion to new listeners, playlist placements, and the ability to replace tracks without losing existing engagement metrics.
The plan was piloted in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada, where it received positive feedback from thousands of emerging artists. The success of the pilot reaffirmed the demand for affordable, professional tools that empower musicians to break into the industry and find their audience.
SoundCloud’s new offering also aims to break down barriers that traditionally hinder emerging artists. By providing an accessible, cost-effective plan, the company seeks to enable creators to focus on their music while taking their first steps toward professional success. For artists seeking more advanced tools and features, the Artist Pro subscription offers unlimited uploads, expanded distribution capabilities, and additional mastering credits, providing further support for those ready to scale their careers.
With the launch of the Artist plan, SoundCloud continues its mission to empower artists and fans to connect through music. Emerging musicians now have the opportunity to create, share, and monetise their work on a global stage, no matter where they are in their journey.
