SoundCloud partners with mental health app Calm to support artists
Music distribution and sharing platform SoundCloud this week announced a partnership with Calm, an app for sleep, meditation and relaxation, to introduce new mental health and wellness benefits exclusively for artists.
SoundCloud boasts over 375 million tracks from 40 million artists. Its member benefits programme includes exclusive offers and discounts from music and creative companies like Discord, Squarespace, Adobe, Splice, and more. The addition of Calm, whose content supports over 150 million people and 3 500 organisations in more than 190 countries, marks the first partner in the mental health and wellness space.
Statistics by Record Union (2019) show that 73% of independent musicians struggle with mental illness.
SoundCloud CEO Eliah Seton said: “The issue of mental health and wellness for artists is a personal one for me. This partnership and step into the wellness space is all about meeting artists where they are. We really want artists to find value in our subscription offerings. That’s why we’ve focused on building out our member benefits in a more holistic and meaningful way.”
Calm is a subscription-based app that provides industry-leading mental health content such as meditation, sleep stories, mindfulness exercises, soundscapes and more. The app features hundreds of hours of original audio content available in seven languages and supports users in more than 190 countries.
SoundCloud Next and Next Pro artists will now have access to exclusive offers for Calm through SoundCloud’s existing member benefits programme, including a two-month free trial and 50% off Calm Premium for Next Pro artists and a one-month free trial and 50% off Calm Premium for Next artists.
“Mental health holds a significant place in my life because I firmly believe that happiness is the ultimate key to a fulfilling existence,” Sojabrat, a First on SoundCloud artist, said. “For artists, mental health is of paramount importance. The creative process, especially in fields like music, heavily relies on being in a good headspace. A healthy mental state can inspire creativity, enable self-expression, and fuel the artistic journey, allowing them to create the kind of music that resonates deeply with their audience.”
These offers come in addition to a host of other benefits exclusively available to Next and Next Pro subscribers, which SoundCloud says provide artists with access to a full suite of tools and resources so that they can build their careers on their own terms.
