SoundCloud partners with Snapchat for music sharing and promotion
Music audio and distribution platform SoundCloud has partnered with Snapchat to enable users to share music, albums, playlists and profiles.
The move follows the newly announced Creative Kit, which lets creators share music.
The integration, which will only happen later this year, will make Snapchat an alternative destination for SoundCloud users who want to discover and promote new music. The partnership will add a new social media channel for SoundCloud artists, who can already share music directly to Instagram Stories.
The initiative increases the number of expansion tools SoundCloud is offering music makers to boost their presence both on and off the platform. In April, SoundCloud launched a new distribution platform called Repost, which lets musicians distribute their songs through 25 major services including Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer.
In addition to the new deal with SoundCloud, Snapchat announced a number of other developments that could make the service more appealing to independent artists.
The features introduced include a new navigation bar with contextual actions based on what the user is doing. Snap Minis will also enable developers to incorporate HTML5 into the app on iOS and Android.
Additionally, Snapchat supports communication at large-scale events like Coachella. At the next event, Coachella Snapchat Mini will enable attendees to plan around the festival's line-up among friends.
Meanwhile, the Snap Camera Kit will introduce new augmented reality capabilities and camera engagement for the app.
Snapchat says there are now more than 800 apps like SoundCloud using its Snap Kit developer platform.
