South African singer Tyla receives Impact Award in California
South African artist Tyla was, on 29 March, honoured with the prestigious Impact Award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards in California.
The event, which took place at the YouTube Theatre at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, seeks to celebrate the achievements of influential women in the music industry.
Aside Tyla, other acclaimed artists who received awards include Erykah Badu, Muni Long, Ángela Aguilar, aespa, Megan Moroney, GloRilla, and Gracie Abrams.
“When my career took off, I realised God had his own plans, and I just feel very lucky to have fans who have given me such an exciting life and allowed me to grow in front of the world, into all the different versions of myself as an artist and as a woman,” Tyla said in her acceptance speech.
“In life, we all have the chance to pour into one another, whether it’s through words, a performance, a dance move, or something else entirely. You never know what that might ignite in someone and what they, in turn, will pass on to another. I am truly grateful and will forever appreciate the people who have poured into me.”
This is not the first time Tyla has been honoured at Billboard Women in Music Awards. In December last year, she won two Billboard Music Awards for Top Afrobeats Artist and Top Afrobeats Song for her hit single ‘Water’.
