Splice offering Ableton Live 10 Lite for free
US music production platform Splice is offering its members Ableton Live 10 Lite as a free download until 31 December.
Splice is a cloud-based music-making and collaboration platform, which integrates digital audio workstation (DAWs) to offer automated online backup with version control, online and offline collaboration, and visualisation of the creation process. Interested members can sign up to Splice with their email and choose a username and password.
No subscription plan is required to get Live Lite. Once users have Live Lite, it will be possible to receive a discount when upgrading to Live Standard or Live Suite.
Ableton Live 10 Lite is a leaner version of the standard DAW. Users will have access to all of the recording and editing features, with restrictions to eight audio and MIDI tracks, eight scenes, two return tracks, eight audio inputs and eight audio output channels.
Live Lite also comes with limited access to the full catalogue of effects and instruments. Music makers can export their projects as WAV and MP3, which makes the tool great for creating and sending out demo tracks.
Interested users of the software can also access Ableton Live Tutorials on YouTube.
Ableton Live 10 is among the most popular DAWs. Its stripped-down version could be a great tool for emerging producers, who may not feel its limitations. Unlike other software sequencers, Ableton is designed to be an instrument for live performances as well as a tool for composing, recording, arranging, mixing and mastering.
In June, Ableton lunched a video tutorial series called Made in Ableton Live, which explores the creative processes of nine artists.
