Stunner criticises Zim government inaction in Zvirongwa

Released on 1 July, the song is off Stunner’s upcoming Ghetto Chronicles album. In the song, he takes the Zimbabwean government head on for failing to address the economic crisis in the country. He bemoans the ZANU-PF-led government for killing his dreams.

He raps:

Taito gaya tiine mota two two (We dreamt about having two cars)
paGhetto paribho tichi chinjanisa ma sutu (It's okay being in the ghetto while changing suites).
Taigaya tichaita mari sa Nas (We dreamt about having money like Nas).

The video for the song was shot in an unamed location and reflects the ongoing challenges faced by Zimbabweans living in high-density suburbs. Stunner laments the lack of urgency displayed by his leaders, who ignore petitions brought forward by the people who put them in power.

The rapper bewails Zimbabwe's deteriorating infrastructure like roads, bridges and public swimming pools. He challenges the government to resolve the situation in the country, as most young people spend their time sitting at home with nothing to do.

The video vs the sound

The black-and-white video complements the negativity in the country. ‘Zvirongwa’ was sung in Stunner’s native Shona language and the video is a straightforward portrayal of Zimbabwe's contemporary story.

The high-pitched, synth-sounding guitar tone in the single chorus takes the energy of the track to the next level while Stunner calmly delivers moving rhymes amid trap beats.

But ‘Zvirongwa’ is not a song for the club or raucous house party. It's emotive appeal is perfect for a road trip or your home stereo. Listen and grieve about your shattered dreams caused by a government that does not care about its people.
