TD Jakes to attend Zim choir fest
US pastor, author and filmmaker Theodore Dexter Jakes, best known as TD Jakes, will be a guest speaker at the Zimpraise Choir’s International Gospel and Music Festival in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 5 to 9 September.
The festival is part of Zimpraise Choir’s vision of uniting people and spreading the gospel through music. The announcement of TD Jakes’ appearance at the festival was made by Zimpraise CEO and choir director Joseph Madziyire on the Zimpraise Facebook page.
“We are excited to be hosting Bishop TD Jakes for the first time in Zimbabwe as one of our guest speakers during this year’s Zimpraise International Gospel and Music Festival as we celebrate 10 years of praise,” Madziyire said.
Madziyire also told a local publication that much would be happening during the event.
“There are going to be different activities at the festival with the opening night being a clash of choirs, while on the second night we are going to have honorary awards and a gospel music legends ministry,” he said.
“On the third day we are going to have different musicians performing and on the fourth night we will be joined by Bishop TD Jakes. On the closing day of the festival were are going to have a business summit in the morning, the Zimpraise Kids Festival in the afternoon and a Zimpraise live DVD recording in the evening.
“I felt there is so much that God has laid upon this vision apart from just the choir. There are other projects that need to support Zimpraise that I want to work on and support this vision to be sustainable and that is what I want to start to build now.”
Madziyire, who will be stepping down as Zimpraise choir director, said he had faced many challenges during his 10 years at the helm of the choir.
“It has been 10 years of great God’s success because it has been hard and difficult to be where we are today. I had to stand in the gap and pretend as everything is well to push the vision of this choir,” he said.
The 60-year-old TD Jakes is an influential US pastor who founded The Potter’s House, a nondenominational megachurch in Dallas, Texas. He is also a renowned author and filmmaker whose sermons are broadcast across the US on multiple online and television platforms.
