Two Zim radio stations go live
Two Zimbabwean radio stations, Hevoi FM and 98.4 FM, began broadcasting live on Thursday after playing pre-recorded music and news casts for the past few months. The radio stations are owned by AB Communications – a local multi-media company.

AB Communications chief operations officer Gilbert Muponda said in a press statement that the launch of the radio stations followed the completion of two studios in the cities of Masvingo and Kwekwe. The radio stations began airing live content yesterday from 6am.
“We have been testing our signal for the past few months and with the arrival of our state-of-the-art equipment, which has now been installed, it’s now all systems go from Thursday 1 June,” he said.
Muponda also blamed the delay in the stations’ launch to cash shortages in the country. “Because of the current liquidity challenges in our economy, we faced delays in accessing money to pay suppliers in Europe and other parts of the world, but we are happy that all is now in place.”
He said the launch of the radio stations would define a new chapter for the growing multimedia company. AB Communications is also the owner of ZiFM Stereo, which has already established itself as one of the most popular radio stations in Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, musicians in Mutare have complained that local radio station Diamond FM is snubbing their music. According to local media, artists based in Mutare, which borders Mozambique, say that since its inception in May 2016, the station has not played their music and instead has given preferential treatment to already established musicians from the capital Harare.
