Visa application requirements

The Visa Section at the Uganda High Commission is open to the public Monday to Friday from 10:00a.m. to 1:00pm only (except on Public Holidays in Uganda and the United Kingdom). The period for processing a visa application is two working days (i.e. 48 hours). Collection is between 10:00a.m and 1:00p.m. Applications for visas may be submitted by mail or in person. A stamped, self addressed and registered envelope must be included with applications submitted by mail.
Applicants are advised to submit their completed applications well in advance of the proposed date of departure.
VISA APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR:
A. ALL PASSPORTS (INCLUDING UK RED PASSPORT HOLDERS):
One duly filled application form by each applicant.
One passport size photograph attached to each application form.
Passport valid for at least six months from the proposed date of entry.
Correct visa fee (£35 for single entry visa & £80 for six-month multiple entry visa).
Letter of invitation/introduction, if travelling on business.
Applicants may be requested to submit additional supporting documentation.
B. UK TRAVEL DOCUMENT HOLDERS (BLUE/BROWN)
One duly filled application form by each applicant.
One passport size photograph attached to each application form.
Travel Document valid for at least six months from the proposed date of entry.
Correct visa fee (£35 for single entry visa & £80 for six-month multiple entry visa).
Invitation letter from Ugandan company or friends.
Photocopies of invitee’s passport (Pages 1, 45 and data page with picture) to be faxed from Uganda.
Applicant’s Bank Statements for the last three months.
Sponsor’s Bank Statements for the last three months.
Evidence of travel arrangements (booking details).
Leave Approval Letter from your UK employer/educational institution.
Applicant’s utility bills (i.e. Gas, Electricity, Water, and Residence Telephone).
Please note that in addition to these requirements, you may be required to give additional information by way of interview.
UK Travel Document holders are advised not to purchase a ticket before obtaining a visa. Visa processing time for UK Travel Document holders is within 5 working days.
Visa Fees:
Single entry visa:
A Single entry visa is valid for three months from the date of issue and costs £35 (in the UK) or $50 (at entry point in Uganda).
Visa fees must be paid in cash (exact money please) or a postal money order payable to UGANDA HIGH COMMISSION, on submission of visa application. Cheques are not accepted. Please note that the visa fee is non-refundable.
Please note that failure to complete the application form fully may result in the issuance of a visa being delayed or refused.
Multiple entry visa:
A six-month multiple entry visa costs £80 (eighty pounds). Other categories of multiple entry visas (12 months, 24 months & 36 months) can be applied for at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Kampala. Information on these other categories can be got on the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ website: www.mia.go.ug.
LIST OF COUNTRIES WHOSE NATIONALS DO NOT REQUIRE TO PAY FOR A VISA TO ENTER UGANDA:
Angola, Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Burundi, Comoros, Cyprus, Eritrea, Fiji, Gambia, Grenada, Italy (Diplomatic Passport holders only), Jamaica, Ireland, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Malta, Mauritius, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, St. Vincent and Grenadines, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Vanuatu, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Nationals of these countries are issued gratis (free of charge) visas upon their arrival.
IMMIGRATION INFORMATION FOR INTENDING VISITORS TO UGANDA
Uganda visas may be obtained at Uganda missions abroad or on arrival at the country’s exit /entry stations.
Entry should be made only through the country’s gazetted ports of entry/exit.
Every visitor will be required to carry a passport with validity beyond six months.
All arriving visitors will be required to fill in arrival declaration cards on arrival. The cards are available at the arrival lounge.
No arriving visitor should carry or convey substances or goods prohibited by customs. (Contact Uganda Revenue Authority website: www.ura.go.ug for details on prohibited substances under the “Customs Tax Guides” tab).
Visitors should not overstay their visa validity otherwise they will be subjected to a fine of U$ 30 per day and other appropriate legal action.
Where visitors seek to stay longer than the period granted on arrival, extension of the period should be sought from the Immigration Headquarters in Kampala before expiry of the initial visitor’s pass.
All visitors must comply with immigration legislation and other national laws of the country during their stay in Uganda.
