Watch Women in Music's From Start to Finish series
Adam Audio Women in Music, in association with MusicTech and B-Side Project HQ, hosted a six-part webinar series titled From Start to Finish in August and September 2020.
The virtual series consists of interactive workshops and panel discussions, which provide insights into how to get the most out of musical ideas, creating a track, what it takes to finish a track and some of the best practices to release a song.
Hosted by Adam Audio's Kelsie McDuffie, the series features a roster of female industry professionals including Australian musician and studio engineer Jane Arnison, Kat Kennedy (Big Life Management), Cathy Mathalone (Conchord MGMT) and Ronnie Tee (Various Artists Management), among many more.
Session 1 – Creating Your Track/Song
The series kicked off with a focus on creating a track, with songwriters Sarah Spencer and Anna Lakatos.
Session 2 – Mixing Your Track
The second episode featured Jane Arnison, who gave some mixing techniques during the session.
Session 3 – Mastering Your Track
The third panel saw Brighton-based mastering engineer Katie Tavini give some pro pointers on mastering.
Session 4 – A&R and Management Panel
The fourth panel featured a discussion on A&R and management, with music business executives making up the panel, including Erin Anderson (CEO of Olivia Management), Celina Rollon (director at Rollon Entertainment) and Ronnie Tee (Various Artists Management), among others.
Session 5 – Marketing & Social Media Panel
The pentultimate episode saw four industry pros and artists discuss various strategies artists can employ to get their music heard. The music business executives and artists included musician and producer Estelle Rubio (director at High Fives Digital Stef Pascual), Trisha O’Brien (DJ and producer) and Alice McLean (Comes With Fries head of digital agency and label services).
Session 6 – Live interview with special guests
The final episode of the series featured a live interview with guests offering advice and insight on everything involved in creating a track, from the spark of an idea through to its marketing. Guests included Prince bandmates Wendy & Lisa, Sony recording artist Lachi and talented artist and music tech trainer Laura Escudé.
