Yemi Alade 'makes the future' with Shell, Jennifer Hudson, others
The multinational energy company Shell has released a song for its Make the Future campaign (stylised as #makethefuture).
Titled ‘Best Day of My Life,’ the song features six artists from around the world: Yemi Alade, Jennifer Hudson, Steve Aoki, Pixie Lott, Luan Santana, and Tan WeiWei.
According to a statement by the company, the song “celebrates the power of collaboration to #makethefuture and showcases the bright energy ideas to emerge from Shell’s collaboration with young energy entrepreneurs.”
The campaign is based on the idea that “The spirit of collaboration can transform anything: from a piece of technology to even a song.”
The music video highlights the idea by featuring the six “international musicians” who have come to together to work “with six start-ups and Shell to highlight a worldwide support of more and cleaner energy.”
Representing the US and leading the group is Jennifer Hudson, singer, actress and Oscar winner. Singer Luan Santana represents Brazil, Pixie Lott is from the UK, Tan WeiWei is a Chinese popstar and Steve Aoki is an American dance act. Yemi Alade is the sole African artist in the lineup.
Along with the main video featuring all of the acts, a video having a single artist has also been released on YouTube. These individual videos may be played in particular geographical zones, according to the nationality of the singers.
Last year, Yemi Alade was involved in One campaign, a similarly collaborative venture but with female artists from Africa only. Nine singers and the Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde were featured in the video for ‘Strong Girl.’ Ms Alade released her sophomore album, Mama Africa, earlier this year and will be performing at the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards.
