Zim arts council announces nominees
The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) yesterday released the list of nominees for the 2018 edition of the National Arts Merit Awards. Now in its 17th edition, the awards ceremony will be held at Reps Theatre in Harare on 17 February.

Topping the nominees list is Jah Prayzah with three nominations followed by Amara Brown and Trevor Dongo who were both nominated twice.
However, NACZ chairperson Prof Ruby Magosvonge said the adjudicators were not impressed by the quality of work in most categories.
“Most submissions of music videos lack imagination and creativity,” she said. “Many artists do not invest in hiring producers as they prefer to produce and direct the filming of the video by themselves. This compromised the quality of the submitted film product.
“There was an upsurge of music products in Zimbabwe with many artists producing singles and pushing the number of entries high. Not many seasoned artists produced new works in the year under review.”
