Zim: Bulawayo Arts Awards announce winners
Zimbabwean artists Sandra Ndebele and Babongile Skhonjwa were the biggest winners in the music categories of the Bulawayo Arts Awards held in the city at the weekend.
- Sandra Ndebele won two awards.
Ndebele won the Outstanding Female Artist and Outstanding Music Video of the Year awards. Skhonjwa took home the Outstanding Male Artist and Outstanding Radio DJ gongs. Other winners at the 2018 edition of the event were Edith WeUtonga, Asaph and Mai Mwamuka.
Ndebele said she would keep making more music to win people's hearts. “I am going to work extra hard to maintain the current situation,” Ndebele told Music In Africa.
Jazz musician Edith WeUtonga expressed her excitement about winning the Outstanding Alternative Music Artist award.
“First of all being nominated at the Bulawayo Arts Awards was a humbling honour considering that it’s where I come from,” she said.
“People that I got nominated with are people of essence and they are people who have worked hard in their musical careers to be where they are. And when I went to Bulawayo my quest was to share the experience with the rest of the nominees.
"Winning that award was a humbling experience. I have been nominated in several awards and I hadn’t yet taken a gong home in my career and getting one home was an honour. I feel honoured and excited."
Now in their second edition, the Bulawayo Arts Awards are designed to recognise and honour exceptional individuals and collaborative artistic efforts in the Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South provinces.
