Zim: Vuyo Brown to perform at Harare's Theatre in the Park
Bulawayo-based Afro-jazz and gospel star Vuyo Brown will take part in the ongoing Music In Africa Live (MIAL) series on 20 November from 6.30pm to 8pm CAT. The event is hosted by Rooftop Promotions and will take place at Theatre in the Park in Harare.
Brown is among three local artists selected to perform at the event and her performance will be the second and penultimate since the programme started in October. The show will be streamed live on the Theatre in the Park Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a limited number of tickets on sale.
“For me, this is just amazing and I feel very excited and honored to have been considered for this programme,” Brown said.
Theatre in the Park producer Daves Guzha said the concert had come as a relief for the Zimbabwean music industry, which has been heavily affected by the global COVID-19 crisis. He also said the programme had gone beyond the capital city to accommodate other artists.
“We are very excited and for us it’s a great opportunity to be running this event for our artists. This event is not only for artists in Harare but for the rest of the country. That is why we have invited artists from other cities like Bulawayo. We are happy to welcome Vuyo to participate in our carefully curated programme,” Guzha said.
Rooftop Promotions, a Harare-based arts hub, is one of many African organisations partnering with the Music in Africa Foundation in the implementation of digital showcases across the continent. The Music In Africa Live programme is designed to respond positively to the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic on operators within the music industry.
Rooftop Promotions’ communications officer, Passmore Ndlovu, said the programme would come to an end in December with a performance by Mbeu and the Mhodzi Tribe.
About Music In Africa Live
Thousands of African musicians have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has occasioned unprecedented lockdowns and restrictions across the continent. African musicians and professionals traditionally make a living from live performances, and now they find themselves in extreme difficulty.
The Music In Africa Live project is one of a number of new projects that the Music In Africa Foundation is introducing this year to support music professionals in Africa.
The project is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, Siemens Stiftung and Goethe-Institut.
