SA: Ralf Gum, Vinny Da Vinci to speak at Dance Music Summit
German electronic producer Ralf Gum and South African house DJ Vinny Da Vinci will speak at the Dance Music Summit on Constitution Hill in Johannesburg from 24 to 27 March 2020.
The first edition of the conference – which will feature seminars, panels, workshops, parties, DJ spin-offs and networking sessions – will focus on developing skills in areas such as music production and performance.
Other speakers at the conference will include music industry professionals and artists such as DJ and label owner Lady Lea (South Africa), DJ and sound designer Kuniyuki Takahashi (Japan) and DJ and label owner Tim White (South Africa/US).
They will be joined by DJ and producer Franck Roger (South Africa), radio programmer Bob Mabena (South Africa) and artist manager and attorney Ashlene Ganesh (South Africa), among many others.
“We want to build the industry from the underground and we want to inspire young people with artists and professionals who are in the industry,” event organiser Sakhe Motshoene told Music In Africa.
“We are also trying to unearth new talent because there’s so much going on in the industry. We want fresh new ideas and this is a way of getting the industry – under the banner of house, dance and electronic music – to speak with one voice.
“We would like organic, real people who are genuinely interested in the event to get something out of it and that’s why most of the artists and speakers featured have hardly been in local publications in the past year. Nothing like this has being done before."
The four-day event is open to music enthusiasts and industry professionals, including producers, DJs, singers, artists managers and promoters.
“The conference will give participants an opportunity to explore potential developments in music, media, technology and culture while aiming to unite and educate people,” the Dance Music Summit said. “It is also designed to equip musicians with information on various topics and insights into the evolving music industry.”
