COVID-19: Ghana's Shatta Wale delays album release
Ghanaian dancehall firebrand Shatta Wale has pushed back the release of his new album Gift of God due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The musician made this public in a social media statement on 5 July. “We were looking at dropping the album this year, but upon second thought, looking at how the coronavirus pandemic is taken a heavy toll on mankind, we have decided to postpone the final release date to 2021,” he said.
Last month, Shatta Wale told the BBC that Beyoncé and Vybz Kartel will feature on Gift of God, which has heightened fans' anticipation for the LP. He also said the album is a departure from his usual solitary creation process.
"This is an album where I am going to have a couple of collaborations. People know me to create albums with me alone. I play my beats, I mix and master everything myself. So, I am going to do a few collaborations with Beyoncé and Vybz Kartel,” Shatta Wale, whom Beyoncé featured on her The Lion King: The Gift album, said.
While fans and industry watchers wait for the album's release, the ‘Kakai’ hitmaker has promised multiple singles for the time being, the latest being ‘Miss Money’ featuring Medikal.
In Sunday's post, Shatta Wale also cautioned his fans to "take the virus seriously because it’s real."
"Follow the protocols. Protect yourself at all times, wear nose masks, wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitisers more often, practice social distancing. If you have nothing important doing outside, just stay at home," he said.
