Excitement grows ahead of Angola Music Awards
There are less than two weeks to go until the gala ceremony of the third annual Angola Music Awards (AMA) in Saurimo, Angola on 30 May.
The Angola Music Awards aims to promote the musical culture of Angola by awarding the best and most popular artists and creators of Angolan music. The nominees in all 24 categories were recently announced at an event that brought together members of the local music industry as well as distinguished guests as the Deputy Governor of Saurimo, John Manacá (see all the nominees here).
Situated in the north-east of the country, not far from the border of the DR Congo, Saurimo is the capital of Lunda Sul province. It is known for its many historical and architectural monuments as well as the natural beauty of its rivers, lakes and waterfalls. Saurimo has about 200 000 inhabitants and is a popular destination for sports and fishing.
Daniel Mendes, general coordinator of the Angola Music Awards, said: "The day of the big awards gala for the 24 winning artists approaches. With Saurimo being the city of choice for this year's edition, we want local people to feel the emotion around this third edition, since it is the first time this province is going to host the event.
“Every year we go through various cities in Angola as a way to promote the event to the entire population. In this way we contribute to the national music scene and the promotion of trade, tourism and local cultures, showing the diverse natural resources of Angola," added Mendes.
Voting in all 24 categories remains open until the day of the awards for the general public, who can vote for their favorite musicians through the official AMA website or by sending an sms with the artist's name to the number 44500.
The AMA is organized by Grupo Mener in partnership with the Provincial Government of Lunda Sul, as well as the Ministries of Culture and of Youth and Sports.
