Jitsvinger
Bio
Jitsvinger (Quintin Goliath) is an established Cape Flats-born conceptual writer, composer, guitarist, educator, musician, poet and performing artist. After the success of his debut album, Skeletsleutel, Jitsvinger has collaborated with classical musicians, jazz nominees, pioneers and legends such as Jack Parow, Mervyn Afrika, Youngsta, Melanie Scholtz, Kyle Shepherd, Akwasi, Blaxtar and Zuluboy to name a few. Quintin has performed on stages both locally in his home country of South Africa, and toured Taiwan, Switzerland, France, The Netherlands and Chilé internationally with music projects such as Rogue State of Mind, Under Madiba Skies, Khoe Khollektiv and South African Road Trip: Celebrating Life.
His latest musical venture, the Jitsvinger Ensemble, is a Cape Town based sound force that combines multiple layers of Goema, Jazz, Blues, Mbaqanga, Soul and Funk lead by Jitsvinger’ s originality and range of live performance experiences in theater, rap, slam poetry and musical sensibility. The members are Chante Phillips (drums), Chadley "Bassface" Beukes (bass), Keegan Steenkamp (trumper) and Francios "Afrokeyz" Afrika (keyboards).
What sets the ensemble apart from other bands is their ability to expand and contract between full band to duo and trio segments to suit various festivals like Darling Voorkamerfest and the Cape Town Jazzathon as well as platforms like Selective Hearing, Rootspring Music, community and corporate events.
Each member of the ensemble’s desire is to celebrate their heritage and explore their identity through the instrument and vibe with it, create with it. While they’re working on their debut release crowds and festivals can already attest to their stage presence in and around Cape Town.
