MUSIGA Accra announces peace album ahead of elections
The Greater Accra regional branch of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has announced a peace album that will be released on 23 October ahead of the country’s general elections in December.
The album was produced by Dr Ray Beats and forms part of the union’s campaign to promote peaceful elections this year. It will feature contributions from Empress Gifty Osei, SK Originale, Ras Appiah Levi, Perppy, Joe Wizzy, Goldmann, Elivava, Shegee Styla, Adam, Kento, Autentiq, Assanquoma, De Servant, Young Money, Annette-D, Joe Wizzy, Anumaa, Stammy Gee, Lady Sarah, Aluta, Sandy Bee, Elivava, Piesie Rhythms and Officer Kwasi Ofori.
“The idea is to use our energies and other abilities to seek peace for this country,” MUSIGA Greater Accra convener Bright Quaye said. “Peace creates the space for all to work and live in harmony and we must never take it for granted.”
In a separate statement, Quaye underscored the need for musicians to use their platforms to champion causes as MUSIGA Greater Accra has done to safeguard peace in Ghana.
This is not the first time MUSIGA is advocating for peace in the run-up to a general election. In 2016, it released the ‘Nation Peace Song’ which won the Ghana Peace Award that year. A remake of the song will appear on the 2020 peace album.
Following the new release, a series of concerts will be held in Accra and other selected regional capitals in support of the album and to reiterate the message of unity and calm during and after the polls.
