Kay-Are

Kay-Are is a South African singer, songwriter and producer who blends spontaneously smooth rhythmic and melodic patterns with richly layered vocals to create a fresh perspective on Pop and R&B.

Raised in Pretoria, Kay-Are started his musical journey by creating demo songs on his iPhone while attempting to complete his final year at university. Being a self-taught guitarist he then chose to hone his ability to produce, mix and master his own music in his bedroom (he was also extremely broke and could not pay anyone to do it for him). He attributes his musical ear to being raised in a diverse musical environment and draws major inspiration in his sound from the likes of John Mayer, Pharrell Williams, Steve Lacy, Anderson Paak and Andre 3000.

Recently nominated for a City Award for ‘012’s Best Newcomer Award’, Kay-Are described this as only “the beginning of something beautiful...or extremely ugly...like just terrible”. With his last single ‘Waves’ being well-received, gaining major playlisting and numerous radio spins, the South African hopes to build on his catalogue with his upcoming single ‘Under the Stars’, releasing on the 7th of May 2021.

With an album in mind, a music video in the works and collaborating with a roster of artists, Kay-Are has a great ambition to take Africa to the World or in his words, “bring the World to Africa”.
