Call for applications: Fellowship for female artists in the US

Residencies are typically four weeks long. Shorter and longer residencies are available. Residents will suggest three residency periods beginning four months after the application date.

“Proposals by women are accepted, as are those of anyone working in these focus areas as they relate directly to the interests and experiences of women,” the WISC said. “Through encouraging inter-generational dialogue, multi-disciplinary projects, and independent research, we celebrate women’s achievements in arts, cultural preservation, science, business and philanthropy.”

Interested women can submit proposals aligned with the following focus areas:

• Arts
• Sciences
• Cultural preservation
• Business 
• Philanthropy

The following are eligible to apply for a residency throughout the year:

• Artists
• Writers
• Scholars
• Professionals
• Innovators
• Entrepreneurs

Project eligibility

The proposal should not exceed 500 words and should highlight:

• What the applicant hopes to accomplish during their residency at WISC and how the organisation will help them achieve it.
• The current status of their project.
• How the proposed project relates to one or more of WISC’s focus areas.

The WISC academic advisory committee will use the following guiding principles to assess applications:

• The proposed subject relates to one or more of the WISC focus areas, broadly defined as the arts, sciences, cultural preservation, business and philanthropy.
• The subject relates to women’s interests, status and experiences.
• The applicant has a significant record of achievement, scholarship, or experience commensurate with age and career stage.
• The proposal will contribute to scholarship or enhance the literature or other elements in the subject area, such as best practices.
• The project is well-conceived and clearly articulated.
• The residency will benefit the applicant’s study or opportunities for accomplishment in their field and produce an interesting public event.
• The applicant would work well within a diverse community of fellows.
• WISC will help this project succeed.
• Applicant must demonstrate their ability to present their work to the general public in an interactive and engaging way.

WISC will provide the successful fellows with: 

• Accommodation
• Working space/studio
• Wi-Fi and a network printer
• Housekeeping services 
• A modest stipend

Note: A $200 deposit will be withheld from stipends and paid at the end of the residency if no damage to the residence is incurred.
