E-commerce platform Ochre launches developer tools
Music-facing, e-commerce platform Ochre on Thursday launched a new range of developer tools aimed at the distributor-to-consumer (D2C) space for labels, distributors, artist managers and service companies.

The UK-based company launched in 2019, offering retail technology to the music industry, including store management, logistics and fulfilment. The platform offers specialised music product metadata and management, including streaming and digital downloads, chart reporting in multiple territories, preorders, bundles and more.
The new suite of tools will be able to open up access to e-commerce data and allow greater customisation of e-commerce experiences.
They include API, which allows custom integrations, app and complete website builds. The publicly available Ochre Storefront Development Kit allows users rapid custom builds with support for third-party development teams. Widgets, meanwhile, enable clients to create quick integrations and assist custom builds.
A few clients were granted early access to the developer tool, and has been used to create bespoke frontend development projects with !K7, Partisan Records and Warp, custom warehouse integrations, while some clients are putting real-time sales and trends data into internal reporting tools. Print on Demand merchandise has become a reality for clients via API integration with Push Entertainment.
Ahead of its public launch, Ochre already had clients generating thousands of transactions originating from custom integrations on third-party services, apps and websites. The company expects to see significant growth in this area over the next few years.
“For a number of years, we’ve been building technology from the ground up, specifically designed for music e-commerce,” Ochre managing director Dan Minchom said. “We’ve found that some projects need greater flexibility and creative control over the user experience, but equally music organisations have business requirements to deeply integrate D2C activity with internal tools and have the option of working with their own selected partners.
“By opening up greater access to data held in Ochre we are empowering our clients to both create innovative customer experiences and use their e-commerce data across their businesses. We’re excited to announce these developer tools and can’t wait to see new innovative usage of our technology to address these areas and more.”
