Call for nominations: 2022 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Unsung category
Charterhouse Ghana, the organiser of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), is inviting nominations for this year’s Unsung category.
Unsung is a contest designed for upcoming artists and affords the winner a performance slot at the 23rd edition of the awards.
To nominate a musical act, fans must post a picture of their preferred artist across social media, using the hashtag #VGMA23Unsung.
The nomination deadline is 13 March.
Last year, the contest was won by highlife singer Nanky, who triumphed over Oseikrom Sikani, Adelaide the Seer, Koby Tuesday, Kwame Yogot, Malcom Nuna, Queendalyn and Naana Blu to win the title, which was previously held by rapper Teflon Flexx. Previous Unsung winners include Kelvyn Boy, Adomaa and Kula.
The VGMAs honour outstanding musical achievements in the country and across the continent in various genres including highlife, Afropop, hiplife and traditional music.
This year’s nominees are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks, following the 18 February submission deadline.
At the 2021 VGMAs, gospel singer Diana Hamilton was named Artist of the Year at a ceremony in Accra on 26 June. In addition to the ultimate prize, which makes Hamilton the first female gospel act to be crowned Artist of the Year, she walked away with the Most Popular Song of the Year, Gospel Artist of the Year and Gospel Song of the Year awards.
