SA: Tresor inducted into Recording Academy’s class of 2022

The Recording Academy also extended its invitation to Nigerian musicians Praiz and Laycon, A&R specialist Abiodun ‘Bizzle’ Osikoya, Boomplay Ghana general manager Elizabeth Ntiamoah-Quarshie, artist manager Kwame ‘Kwaps’ Obeng-Kwapong and Empire marketing manager for Africa and the diaspora Stephanie Adamu, who have until 12 July to accept the call to become voting members.

Tresor’s invitation reflects his contribution to the recording arts, as well as his creativity and leadership. Additionally, it provides him with the opportunity to serve his community, celebrate his craft, and build a stronger future for all music creators.

“I am truly honoured to be invited to join the Grammy Recording Academy Class of 2022 to help advocate, celebrate and push our music culture,” Tresor said.

Tresor’s invitation follows his appearance on Drake’s ‘Down Hill’ track off the Toronto rapper’s latest album Honestly, Nevermind. He also contributed as a writer and producer on Drake’s other album, Certified Lover Boy – a star-studded effort that features Jay-Z, Future, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Kid Cudi, and Rick Ross.

Born Mukengerwa Tresor Riziki in Goma, DRC, Tresor is a known for his unique soul sound. Since he relocated to South Africa, the award-winning artist has made an indelible mark on the Afropop scene, with notable collaborations with top local musicians including AKA, Msaki and Beatenberg.
