Open call: Sound Art Residency 2024-25 programme in Paris
The Jacques Chirac Museum of Branly Quay is inviting artists to submit applications for its Sound Art Residency programme in Paris, France.
The Sound Art Residency is open exclusively to artists who come from the following continents: Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. There is no age limit to apply. The jury will give precedence to pieces conceived in connection with the museum’s collections, interests and theme.
The winning project will be chosen in the spring of 2024 by an international jury that will bring together various personalities from the world of sound and audio-visual creation. The museum will pay the winning artist an endowment of €8 000 (about $8 700) and will also finance the production of the sound work, which will be presented to the public and may become part of the museum's collections.
As part of the Sound Art Residency, the museum will finance a work of sound art that may enter its permanent collection. The work produced during the residency may be a trans-disciplinary piece, and not strictly a work of sound art. However, the main component of the piece must be sound of any type (music, spoken or sung voices and ambient sound).
The jury will give precedence to pieces conceived in connection with the museum’s collections, interests and theme. If it is pertinent, the artist may have access to the museum’s audio and audio- visual archives or to the collection of musical instruments.
The space called Music Box, located on level R2 of the museum, is a place dedicated to the presentation of musical or audio-visual works. The works produced as part of the Sound Residency are presented in this space. Consequently, the Music Box must be part of the project proposed by the laureate, either as an installation or as a mediation space.
While the spaces at the museum can be the place for the inaugural presentation of the work, the piece must be adaptable to other places and spaces. The different spaces of the museum are presented in an annex to this opening call. At the end of the residency, the work will be presented to the museum’s public in a manner determined by the artist and explained in the application (performance, discussion and workshop).
