Roxette is coming to South Africa in 2025
Swedish pop rock group Roxette will perform at the Grand Arena in Cape Town and Time Square in Pretoria on 26 and 28 February 2025, respectively.
The tour dubbed Roxette in Concert is organised by Big Concerts and will mark a return to the road for the band nine years after the last major tour, kicking off in Cape Town before heading to Australia. It also comes after the group lost Marie Fredriksson to cancer almost five years ago.
Led by songwriter and founder Per Gessle, Roxette will take to the stage alongside singer Lena Philipsson.
“This is all about my Roxette songs, this huge bundle of music and lyrics I’ve been writing for well over three decades,” Gessle said. “I’m not starting a new duo. Marie will always be irreplaceable. However, I’m really lucky to have found an amazing voice and a brilliant performer in Lena.
“I co-wrote Lena’s first major hit back in 1986 and she’s one of the brightest shining stars Sweden has ever known. I’m extremely proud she wants to join me in my trek to keep the Roxette legacy alive.”
After South Africa, the band will perform in Australian cities including Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong, Adelaide, Hobart and Mount Cotton.
Philipsson said: “I’m both excited and thrilled about embarking on this tour. I really look forward to working with Per – he is a phenomenal songwriter and a never-ending musical force.”
“2025 will see a live revival of the massive catalogue, all penned by Gessle, when he takes the Roxette band back on stage and perform his songs live in front of a dedicated audience,” a statement said. “Their legacy of songs has continued to thrive, being constantly streamed, played and enjoyed by old and new supporters around the world.”
The Roxette band will consist of Christoffer Lundquist, Magnus Börjeson, Magnus ‘Norpan’ Eriksson, Dea Norberg as well as original Roxette icons Clarence Öfwerman and Jonas Isacsson.
