Wizkid, Davido condole with D’banj on son’s death
Since news of Nigerian popstar D’banj losing his only child surfaced on social media yesterday, several musicians and other Nigerians have reached out to offer condolences.
Daniel Oyebanjo III reportedly drowned at the family pool at D'banj's Lagos residence. He was only 13 months old.
“May God comfort D'banj and his household,” wrote rapper Olamide. “No amount of [words are] enough to heal or console at times like this but strength from the almighty to see you through it we pray for.”
“Wow!!!!! Praying for strength for u and your family Dbanj! God’s own,” wrote Wizkid on Twitter.
“Stay strong, D’banj,” tweeted popular act DJ Jimmy Jatt.
“I was just holding you last Monday celebrating your birthday. I’m in shock, my heart is broken. This is unbearable,” Tiwa Savage posted on Instagram.
D’banj, who turned 38 earlier this month, appeared to confirm the death of Daniel as reports spread on social media last night. “Trying times,” he wrote on Instagram accompanied by a photo of his wife Lineo Didi Kilgrow and his late son. “But my God is always and forever faithful.”
More expressions of sympathy have followed. “Heartfelt condolences to D'banj and his family. Words can never be enough. Stay strong,” wrote Peter Okoye, formerly of P-Square.
“Just heard the worst news in a long time,” wrote former partner Don Jazzy.
“God got you, bro, stay strong and prayerful,” wrote Skales.
R&B act Banky W also expressed his sadness. “Having a hard time finding words to pray but I’m praying for both of you. May God give both of your strength and comfort in this terrible time. I’m so sorry bro!”
“May the Lord give you and your family strength my brother,” wrote Dr Sid.
“I pray for strength for D'banj and his wife and family in general during this very difficult period. God knows best. It is well,” wrote Aramide.
Away in the US, where he was named the winner of the 2018 BET award for Best International Act, Davido thanked D’banj and expressed his sympathies as he held his trophy onstage.
“I want to send condolences to my big brother, the actual artist that paved the way for us to be on this stage, D’banj,” Davido said. “My condolences I wish you. You are my brother.”
