Johannesburg Youth Orchestra
Bio
This vibrant orchestra was formed in 1976 and, with the Symphonic Wind Band, is the company’s senior group. The JYO is conducted by Eddie Clayton. It is a full symphony orchestra, catering for students who are 25 years or younger. They play stringed, wind, brass and percussion instruments. The orchestra consists of 70 members this year. The group’s repertoire includes popular contemporary, light as well as serious classical music: The Johannesburg Youth Orchestra is well known throughout the city and even further afield.
If you have achieved Grade 6 or higher and would like to audition to be part of this group, they would love to hear from you. The Joburg Youth Orchestra also consists of smaller groups such as the Jazz Youth Ensemble (founded in 2000), Chamber Wind Group (2006) and Symphonic Wind Band (1990).
