Call for applications: Arab world cultural policy workshop
Researchers and cultural actors in the Arab world can apply for the Cultural Policy programme workshop in a yet to be announced country this November.
The Cultural Policy programme was launched in 2009 by Culture Resource, an NPO that supports artistic creativity and encourages cultural exchange in the Arab world. It strives to bolster creativity and freedom of expression. The programme also stimulates the role of the cultural sector in social and political change in Araba countries.
Since 2009, the Cultural Policy programme has:
- Surveyed and monitored the development of cultural policies in Arab countries to generate a knowledge base that supports cultural planning and cooperation in the region.
- Built the capacities of cultural actors and researchers involved in cultural policies
- Proposed mechanisms that will serve to develop the overall cultural ecosystem in Arab countries.
This workshop will bring together 12 participants to hold discussions on the following areas:
- The existing definitions of cultural policies.
- The different types of cultural policies and their components.
- The stakeholders involved in policy design and development.
- Ways to develop local definitions of cultural policy for the Arab region.
- The cultural policies frameworks and action levels within the local municipal, regional and national level.
- A critical reading of the UNESCO Convention of 2005 on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
- A discussion of the content of the Report on Cultural Policies in the Arab Region, which is produced every four years
The application deadline is 4 September 2019 (5pm Beirut time). Successful applicants will be announced on 10 October 2019.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be researchers and cultural actors originating from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, Egypt, Sudan, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
Eligibility
To apply, applicants must:
- Have previous experience in academic research or practice in cultural policies and cultural management in the Arab region.
- Have produced studies, executed projects or participated in previous workshops related to cultural policies.
- Have Arabic writing skills and research skills
Requirements
- A copy of a passport .
- A cover letter in Arabic explaining the motivations to participate in the workshop
- A detailed CV in Arabic.
- Examples of any previously produced articles, research or reports in Arabic or any other language regardless of whether or not they were published.
Remuneration
Culture Resource will provide travel expenses, visa and accommodation fees. Participants will be responsible for the visa application process.
