SA: Arts and Culture Trust announces scholarship winners
The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) has announced the winners of the 11th edition of its scholarship programme.
The announcement follows an April call-out to young people who intend to pursue their studies in singing, musical theatre, visual art, acting and dance.
The winners of the ACT scholarship, in partnership with Dramatic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO) and Nedbank, are as follows:
- Singing – Tshepang Mogane.
- Musical theatre – Leah Mari.
- Acting – Nomsa Mavuka.
- Dance – Chantal De Haan.
- Visual arts – Rick Baloyi.
“The level of finalists chosen to compete in each of the five categories is raised with each year that the scholarships auditions are held nationwide,” ACT said.
“This year has been no different, with nine immensely talented performers and three equally gifted visual artists presenting their best work. Each of the finalists were vying for a R50 000 [$3 400] monetary contribution towards a qualification from an accredited South African institution.
“Added to this, the ACT, DALRO and Nedbank scholarship comes with recognition and prestige, being the product of a partnership between the Arts & Culture Trust, the Nedbank Arts Affinity and DALRO, among others.
“With this year included, the ACT, DALRO and Nedbank scholarships programme has disbursed more than R2.5m to young South Africans for undergraduate studies at a South African tertiary institution.”
