Canadian rapper Kaytranada to headline Milk + Cookies Festival in SA
Canadian rapper and producer Kaytranada will headline the Milk + Cookies Festival at Cape Town Ostrich Ranch and Old Park Station in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 5 and 11 January, respectively.
Organised by Milk and Cookies, the event is set to blend the best of local and international music, culture, and technology in a historic celebration. With nearly two decades of experience in producing high-impact events for top artists and global brands, Milk and Cookies aims to showcase South Africa’s rich cultural scene while introducing its popular festival concept to a new audience. The event is the centrepiece of the inaugural Milk + Cookies Music Week South Africa, an 11-day cultural extravaganza featuring concerts, artist development programs, and immersive experiences across Cape Town and Johannesburg.
“South Africa’s influence on global music, culture, and art is profound, and we wanted to honour that by making it the location for our first international festival,” Milk & Cookies said in a statement. “This isn’t just a show; it’s a deep dive into the culture. Our goal is to celebrate South Africa’s dynamic cultural legacy while blending it with global sounds to create something truly special.”
Festival highlights and Music Week events
The Milk + Cookies Music Week South Africa will run from 31 December 2024, to 11 January 2025, beginning with New Year’s festivities in Cape Town. The week will feature yacht parties, exclusive fashion pop-ups led by top South African designers, and brunch mixers featuring performances by local DJs and artists. These events are designed to foster cultural exchanges and creative connections between artists from the US, South Africa, and other African countries.
The second week will shift focus to artist development, with workshops, panels, and networking events to nurture emerging South African talent. Inspired by the success of ATL Music Week in Atlanta, this segment will include songwriting camps, listening sessions, and a high-profile executive brunch celebrating the achievements of music professionals. Collaboration is a central theme, with South African and American artists working together to push creative boundaries.
