People wonder how the Ananse Band, made up of youngsters, are able to send their listeners spirits to a different realm through their jazz music blended with African and Western musical elements. Fans are always amazed with the band’s intriguing performances which leave them yearning for more.
Inspired by the legendary Osibisa, Obed (leader) with the help of his longtime friend who later became the bass guitarist of the band, composed his first Afro jazz track and after some time the two saw it necessary to form an Afro jazz band to awaken the spirit of Afro jazz among the youth in Ghana. Amazed by how the spider artistically designs it web, the band decided to adopt the name “Ananse”, which is spider in English, to reflect on the artistic performance of the band. Basically, the band performs Afro jazz and Highlife music but occasionally performs other music genres.
As part of the band’s vision, the band has planned to collaborate with music academies and other music institutions in the country and even beyond for more series of Afro jazz concerts and workshops as it did with the Department of Music and Dance of the University of Cape Coast for their maiden edition of Afro jazz concert dubbed “JAZZAROMA”. The band has performed in several jazz clubs in Ghana and has made numerous appearances on both national and cooperate music platforms. After successfully coming out and selling a good number of copies of their first and second albums, the band is currently working on producing series of albums to hit the local and the international markets
Band members are; Obed Buabin (Keyboardist, Vocalist & leader of the band), Samuel Awuku (Guitarist), David Aidoo (Bass player), Emmanuel Addai Siaw (Drummer), Michael Laryea (Percussionist), Ekow Mbrah (Saxophonist), Bradley Christopher White (Trumpeter).
