Bio
Evans Mapfumo is a Zimbabwean singer songwriter, a guitarist, a composer, an entrepreneur, music practitioner and a creative arts activist.
Evans' music entails African centered themes supported by his band called Kiat Afrika which he founded in 2009 in Cape Town, South Africa.
Evans Mapfumo's music is a fusion of Zimbabwe’s folk traditional rhythms and other music styles like reggae, soft rock and jazz played on marimba, mbira, guitars and drums.
Evans Mapfumo has performed at the 19th Edition of Sauti za Busara Festival in February 2022 and shared the stage with Msaki( South Afrika) , Sjava (South Afrika) , Mampi ( Kenya) to mention but a few. Other festivals he performed include the Grahams Town Arts Festival 2012, SA. Harare Beer Festival 2014, HIFA 2015 and the 2010 World Cup Fan Festival in Cape Town S.A where he shared the stage with the late Dr. Oliver Mutukudzi and Salif Keita, .
Music artworks released by Evans Mapfumo are Maneta (single, 2016 and Re-released in 2024), Torai Nguva (single,2020), Ndanga Ndakarasika (single,2021) and recently released his debut album Afamba Apota (album released December ,2022).
Evans holds a bachelor's degree in Ethnomusicology and specializes in music performance, music education, marimba and mbira making .
