ImA
Bio
Hailing from Nairobi, Kenya, female singer-songwriter Immaculate Juma alias ‘Ima’ is a sassy mix of musical influences including afropop and rnb which have heavily influenced her music.
Growing up in a largely musical household, her influences a range of both pop and rnb artistes including the likes of The Spice Girls, Boys 11 Men, 112, Destiny’s Child, Kleptomaniacs, Nameless & Brenda Fasi. As she grew musically, she slowly begun looking up to African
musical powerhouses like Sauti Sol, Angelique Kidjo, Tiwa Savage, AKA, MDQ, Blinky Bill, Nasty C, Simi & South Africa’s Freshly Ground.
All her influences have one thing in common – they create music that makes you want to move, but most importantly, they create music that resonates with the continent. Having started out her music career as part of a band called MICE, IMA dared to go solo and begun releasing her own music in the year 2020 when she released her first ever single ‘Grown’.
‘Grown’ she says, is a fun upbeat track which is also an ode to men and women everywhere who’ve ever tried to shoot their shot at a crush. Sometimes, they need a little convincing, she thinks. Shortly after ‘Grown’, IMA released ‘Don’t Complicate it’, another single that dropped on March 16th 2021. The track, she quips, is about making love ‘easy’, as it should be.
IMA’s latest releases are ‘Heaven’ released on 3rd December 2021, Khusubila dropped March 2022, 'Tenee' released June 2022, as she plans to release an EP in December 2022.
As a performing artist, Ima has performed alongside her previous band at InkOverflow held at the Michael Joseph Centre, DrumJam held at Alliance Francias, KIKE Fest, Usanii Gigs, For Arts Sake, The Jam held by Goethe Institut.
