Kagwe Mungai
Bio
Kagwe Mungai is an Afropop artist from Kenya.
While living in Johannesburg, South Africa, he immersed himself into the jazz and pop-rock culture leading him to form a jazz and rock band, where he played drums and sang lead respectively. At 16, he was introduced to an accomplished music producer in Uganda, who taught him the basics of production. He subsequently studied Music at the University of Southampton in England and spent the rest of his time in the UK honing his skills and developing his debut mixtape (EP) "It Only Gets Better"
The "Kenyan Heart Throb" proceeded to join Kenyan record label, Taurus Musik. He continued to pursue his music from all angles which saw him dropping hits with big hitters in the industry such as Muthoni the Drummer Queen, Fena Gitu, King Kaka, Niniola(Nigeria), Blinky Bill, Kansoul among others. Aside from producing his own music, Kagwe also went into more elaborate production for music household names such as Sauti Sol. As the producer behind the group's successful song, Nishike, Kagwe Mungai’s exemplary skills were awarded through the 2014 MTV Europe Awards for Best African Song. He has since won the pulse music video of the year award in 2017 and was formidably nominated for the best East African act by Afrimma in 2018.
Kagwe Mungai kicked off 2019 with a release of his first album titled "Spectrum". The 15 track album is a celebrated compilation of numerous genres and songs that showcase the 360-degree musical prowess of Kagwe. With nearly 1 Million streams, Spectrum earned him the rank of 2nd highest streamed Kenyan artist on Spotify.
Additionally, Kagwe Mungai has also ventured into brand ambassadorship duties by representing notable brands such as Ciroc Vodka, Durex, Lyft Pouches, Aramanda- an African Fashion powerhouse and Keexs- an upcoming African sneaker brand and currently sits on the board of directors for Switch TV, a rising Media House in partnership with the Red Cross.
