Mbogua Mbugua Mbugua, mostly known as a M³ (pronounced as m-cubed) is a young music producer, musician, instrumentalist, composer and upcoming DJ born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. Describing his sound as Feel Good Music, he has explored several genres, exploring different styles, blending it with African elements to create the groovy and soulful music he makes.
His passion for music began at the age of six when he started playing the piano. In church M³ learnt how to play the drums by copying and imitating other drummers till eventually he got to join the worship band. While in primary school, a marching band was introduced and Mbogua joined. This saw him playing the cornet and trumpet for about five years while still playing drums once in a while.
His love for music grew and he began playing drums for different artists such as Swiga and Kemunto mostly from Sauti Academy. In 2014, he started making his own music while doing a music course at Brookhouse. He taught himself how to operate the software, program and arrange music with guidance from the tutors.
Beginning of 2015, he began to assistance in various studios in Nairobi and learning from the likes of Polycarp Otieno from Sauti Sol. In 2016 he won the remix competition held by Nairobi based musician Tetu Shani for his song with Mayonde, Chemistry. M³ delivered a well balanced track with groove and bass taking the original song to a whole new level. The following year M³ and Tetu Shani had the opportunity to collaborate on one of Tetu’s song Network Failure and shot a video for the song.
In 2017, he got the chance to get some studio time at the Rainmaker Studios at the Elephant in Nairobi which is owned by Eric Wainaina. This is where M³ worked on a number of projects with several musicians such as Emma Cheruto (Gloomy Morning), Kahvinya (Some Of The Ways), Wendy Kemunto (Tabasamu) and just recently released a collaborative Ep titled ‘Served Chilled’ with Ciano Maimba, a singer- songwriter and guitarist also from Nairobi.
