Rāms is an alternative eclectic artist who blends soul, hip hop and traditional African sounds to carve his own sonic state. Notable for his distinct sound, which has earned him appearances on various collaborative projects; Rāms is establishing himself as a new wave indie artist taking on the world.
Born Katlego Luyanda Tau in Johannesburg, South Africa – Rāms begun his career in the industry as a DJ, Producer and Trap artist focusing on his hip hop penmanship and sound. Always evolving, Rāms has matured in his offering to present a peregrine of life shared by so many in South Africa through his music in a way that captures ears universally.
Having schooled in Johannesburg South, he went on to first study Strategic Brand Communication at Vega after leaving high school. Following nearly a year in advertising school, Rāms knew he had a bigger purpose of pursuing a professional music career and forged forward to study at the Academy of Sound Engineering for a year. During his time at the Academy, Rāms learned skills that allowed him to participate in the music world from behind the stage. It was at a 2017 Travis Scott concert where he realised his dream was to be on stage as an artist performing music. From this moment he dedicated all his efforts to becoming a musician – focusing on song writing, singing, rapping and production.
Being connected with event properties in Johannesburg, Rāms managed to hustle his way into the local Joburg party scene, linking up with youth collective Until Until with live mixes as a DJ and producer at their events – quickly making a name for himself under the alias Betterbust.
After a steady journey that led to his discovery, Rāms was introduced to Sims Phakisi and Dominique Soma from WeHeartbeat. This led to a collaboration with a range of other great musicians such as Mind Design, Melody Symphonies, Evil Needle, and Zaki Ibrahim for the Beat Lab Project.
Dubbed as a rap addict and gifted with the ability to quickly write rhymes, Rāms found himself at the right time and right place which led to the breakout track Alright with Zikomo and Charles Géne Suite in 2019.
Making a breakout debut to his cult following, Rāms dropped a 5track EP titled He Say She Say in November 2020 with lead single Chances (I’m In). He was then featured on Slice Fredrico’s single Altitude alongside Lucid Prinxe in March 2021.
Having formed a band whilst collaborating with WeHeartbeat, Rāms has deviated into giving his fans an unplugged music element and will present this through his upcoming 3 track EP set for release in September 2021 - called the Rāms Live Experience.
Set for international stages, Rāms continues to break the norm of mainstream music with his own sonic offe
