Chalachew Ashenafi

Chalachew Ashenafi is a singer and Masinqo player - a traditional Ethiopian instrument comparable to Violin but with just only one string. Chalachew was born and raised in Debre Tabor town before moving to Addis Ababa early on his life. He played at weddings and traditional bars before releasing his own album entitled "Gerager" in 2009.

He has hosted shows and performed at events in the United States, Italy and Germany among other countries. He has recently appeared on Ethiopian Television playing Masinqo on the background to Getnet Enyew's poem "Abay".
