Frieda van den Heever
Bio
Frieda van den Heever is active on many stages and also behind the screens in the performing arts. She is a musician, singer, song-writer and actress in stage productions and also does the musical direction and production of many theatre shows. She is a voice artist and works for RSG and other radio stations and TV-channels. Frieda produces and presents radio programmes and receives a ATKV-Mediaveertjie for her presenting in 2020. She also directs radio dramas for RSG.
In 2020 Frieda directs the production "Die poet - wie's hy?" which receives the award for best production at the Toyota Woordfees 2020. She also wins the Fiësta Award for Best Direction en Best New Script and the production wins Fiëstas for best music production and best production of 2020. In 2022 she wins a Kanna Award for Exceptional Literary Contribution for the production die oerkluts kwyt that debutes at the KKNK and is about Antjie Krog’s work, with Antoinette Kellermann and Ancient Voices as the cast. Her solo music production Skoonveld also wins the Woordtrofee for best contemporary music performance at Toyota Woordfees 2022.
Frieda has been working as a session musician and vocalist for several musicians and bands in the studio and can be heard on three tracks on Die Heuwels Fantasties’ albums (Mangemaak, Pêrels en Lewensredders and Nodig). She has recorded two albums with her own music (Bat Qol and Abba) and Spoorsny is her first Afrikaans album. The album is described as a fresh and honest contribution to the body of work of Afrikaans contemporary music.
