Marleen Xplastaz

Bio

Marleen Xplastaz is a Tanzanian singer, songwriter, composer, and commercial model. She is also a talented hair and makeup stylist. With only three years as a solo artist in the music industry, she has already made a name for herself with her powerful and healing music, which infuses smooth R&B with Bongo Flava, Afropop and Amapiano, and a captivating live show with her band, which has performed for large audiences in Mwanza, Arusha and Dar es Salaam..

Her most significant song, "Malkia wa Nguvu," means "A Powerful Queen" in Swahili. The song is meant to inspire and empower women across the world who have lost hope and courage in their communities. In particular, Marleen wrote the song to address the hardships faced by young girls in Tanzanian society, such as lifestyle, cultural beliefs, and early marriage. The song encourages women to stand together, face challenges, and overcome them to find success.

Marleen's story is an inspiring one, as she rose to fame as a solo artist despite overcoming hardships such as being a young, single mother. Born in 1995 in Arusha, Tanzania, she came from the musical family of Xplastaz, known for their unique fusion of conscious hip hop and traditional Maasai vocal music. She was inspired by her relatives to pursue a career in music. Her talent was discovered at the age of three, and she made her public debut in the music video 'Afrika' by X Plastaz ft. Fid Q & Bamba Nazar in 2010, in which she sang the chorus. Her siblings also taught her to rap. Marleen began singing with live bands in Tanzania in 2017, and she released her first song, "Hatukujui" in 2020 after a musical research tour in Germany.

Marleen continued to release several hit songs, including "Nawe," which did exceptionally well in 2021. The song was played and talked about in major media outlets such as MtvBase Africa, and she collaborated with different artists from Kenya and other parts of Africa.

Marleen Xplastaz is a promising, progressive, and innovative artist whose music and song lyrics are outstanding, educational, and liberating, especially towards women, minorities, and oppressed groups in Tanzanian society.
