Netéske Horton

Bio

Netéske Horton is a professional saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator based in East London, South Africa. Having specialized in jazz performance, she puts her skills to use on the band stand and in the class room. She has performed extensively in the Eastern Cape as a band leader and session musician, most notably with artists such as award-winning vocalist Dumza Mazwana, and fellow horn players Sakhile Simani and Kyle du Preez. Netéske is an experienced and sought-after saxophone teacher and music educator, having devoted most of her career thus far to Stirling High School, where she was the Head of Music for six years, as well as being a jazz tutor and band conductor at the annual National Youth Jazz Festival in Makhanda.

Netéske holds a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from the University of Cape Town, and has recently completed her master’s degree in music through Wits University. She spent nine years in the education system as a full-time music teacher, and is now working as the music director and worship ministry leader at Redeemer Christian Church in East London.
