Kimberly Oxide

Kimberly Oxide is the Founder of the Consulting Agency, OXIDE - Language(s) & Cultural Industries, based in Mauritius, and which offers services in the domain of languages and in the cultural industries, focusing on the music industry. The main goals are to contribute to the enrichment of the music industry and to promote literacy and language access. The vision of the consulting agency is to bridge the gap between Academia and Practice. Creating space for opportunities between 2 worlds which seem to be opposite but can be approached as complementary. Capitalising on each one’s strengths to initiate innovative and bilateral scopes of expansion so as to promote research in practice as well as promote practice in research.

Kimberly, MPhil holder in Language Studies, is finishing her PhD on the topic of languages in the cultural industries in Mauritius. She is also a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Mauritius, teaching sociolinguistics (French and Creole language) at undergraduate levels.

She is also the first Mauritian to be on the board of the Music In Africa Foundation. She has been working in the music industry focusing on professionalisation, development, data collection, and international relations. She has collaborated in publications as responsible of the editorial committee or as co-author, mainly on topics related to music, languages, and culture. She has experience in teaching, translation of reports and stories, and transcription of interviews and songs.

She has been working in MOMIX (the first music market in Mauritius) as the Head of Research & Development Department. She worked on the development of MOMIX through the establishment of new structures and programmes to promote the mobility of cultural actors, the creative and cultural industries, the structuring and professionalisation of cultural actors, among others. She also works on the elaboration of International Cultural and Cooperation Agreements with different territories.
