Selmor Mtukudzi to launch new album in Harare

The album follows last week's release of ‘Mandidzimbira’, which is dedicated to her father, Oliver Mtukudzi.

Dehwe reNzou comprises 11 tracks and is a fusion of Afro-jazz and traditional beats such as katekwe and jit. The album was produced by Steve Dyer and MacDee and features such songs as ‘Zvine Basa Rei’, ‘Uchafinhwa’, ‘Tanda Mbizi’ and ‘Unconditional Love’.

“The much-anticipated album launch has been spiced up with the inclusion of Alick Macheso on the line-up,” Selmor Mtukudzi’s publicist, Reginald Chapfunga, said.

“Macheso brings in sungura flare to Selmor Mtukudzi's katekwe and in the last two months roped in Selmor Mtukudzi as a supporting act during his tours. That fatherly gesture significantly helped to take Selmor’s music to the people.”

Dehwe reNzou features members from Oliver Mtukudzi’s Black Spirits Band, including Picky Kasamba, Never Mpofu and Sam Mataure.

“Picky Kasamba did backing vocals and percussion while Never Mpofu and Sam Mataure played bass and drums respectively. Legendary South African musician Vusi Mahlasela, popularly known as ‘The Voice’, also features on one of the tracks,” Chapfunga said.

Selmor seeks to continue her father’s legacy by working with South African producer Dyer who is known for producing Oliver Mtukudzi's albums Tuku Music, Bvuma and Paivepo. 

Meanwhile, MacDee has previously worked with Selmor on ‘Hangasa’ and ‘Wakandipedzera Nguva Yangu’.
