Uwrongo goes gold in SA
‘Uwrongo’, a song by Ami Faku, Prince Kaybee, Shimza and Black Motion, has attained gold status in South Africa.
The song reached No 1 on various South African radio stations and took first spot for multiple weeks on Radiomonitor's South Africa Top 100 chart.
The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) certifies singles and EPs as gold after they have sold 10 000 units. RiSA equates 120 streams to one single.
Prince Kaybee wrote on Facebook: “2.7 million streams for a single that’s two months old. We officially sold gold.” This would mean that the single is 7 500 units short of reaching platinum status, which RiSA certifies at 30 000.
“I’m so happy and excited,” Ami Faku said. “It’s very impressive that this happened over such a short space of time.”
‘Uwrongo’ was released on 30 January and is available on all leading music streaming platforms. It was sitting on about 1.4 million YouTube views at the time of writing.
Ami Faku’s distinct voice has proven to be a winner not only for ‘Uwrongo’ but also other collaborations that have gone gold, such as ‘Into Ingawe’ and ‘Ungowam’ by Sun-El Musician and De Mogul SA, respectively.
