Call for proposals: Goethe-Institut Project Space 2021
Artists in South Africa can now submit proposals for the 2021 Goethe-Institut Project Space (GPS) grant.
GPS is a multidisciplinary programme that supports work such as workshops, exhibitions, events and performances. Workshops and exhibitions should include music, visual art, performing arts, film, or combinations of the aforementioned art forms.
Interested applicants can apply here. The submission deadline is 17 August. Read the FAQs here.
Goethe-Institut says it will offer financial support to a maximum of R60 000. Should the budget exceed this amount, the artist or project team should seek further support – information of which should be included in the budget plan.
GPS is envisioned as a free, non-commercial and artist-centred platform designed to support not only the artists and their projects, but also the many structures, spaces and festivals that currently exist and need partnerships of this nature in order to continue their work. GPS enables creators in all artistic disciplines to select the space and infrastructure they wish to work with. If awarded, a GPS grant would support both the hosting space and the project itself.
The German institute says it will support smaller, less institutional and non-commercial spaces, and give precedence to those situated outside of the large metropolises of South Africa. Practitioners will be able to produce their work locally with a partner of their choice.
An independent jury of arts professionals, selected by Goethe-Institut for their expertise in the field of independent art projects, will be responsible for the selection of projects that will be supported in 2021.
